Searching for Birds
Searching for Birds transforms an enormous collection of bird data into an interactive visual story that feels inviting, curious, and full of life. Created by Nadieh Bremer with writing and editing by Emily Barone, the experience explores which birds attract the most public attention and what online searches can reveal about our relationship with the natural world.
The project succeeds because it never allows the data to overpower the subject. Detailed illustrations, organic shapes, animated charts, and carefully paced transitions turn complex information into something approachable. Visitors are encouraged to scroll, explore, and compare species without feeling as though they are reading a conventional research report.
Searching for Birds is an outstanding example of information design with personality. It demonstrates how data visualization can educate while still creating wonder, pairing analytical depth with the color, movement, and unpredictability of the birds themselves.
